Topic: Research News

Scientists discovered a bug fossil with crab-like claws in Myanmar's Kachin region. The fossil is 100 million years old and has unique features that resemble those of crabs.

Amber from Myanmar's Kachin region continues to reveal secrets about life during the age of dinosaurs. Fossils found inside this 100-million-year-old resin show us what creatures lived in ancient forests. Researchers at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich have identified a new bug species with an especially unusual feature: its front legs ended in large claw-like structures that resemble crab pincers.

These appendages, called chelae, function like forceps and are very rare among insects. Ancient Insect With Rare Crab-Like Claws
