The researchers who did this study are Prof. Lijun Zhu and Prof. Xiangrong Wang from China. They tested their 2VMR theory by doing experiments on single-layer magnetic metals and found that it explained the unusual magnetoresistance they observed.

This new discovery is important because it changes how we understand spintronics and its applications. It also means that many experimental results that were previously attributed to SMR can be reinterpreted using the 2VMR theory.
