Revolutionizing Sustainability: The Promise of Nanofibrous Cellulose in Industry and Medicine

Lithuanian scientists have made a significant breakthrough in sustainable materials by developing a production method for a nanofibrous cellulose matrix, which has the potential to replace petroleum-based polymers in various industries, including biomedical applications. Cellulose, the primary plant scaffold and Earth's most abundant natural polysaccharide, is being explored as a sustainable alternative to synthetic materials used in textiles, clothing, toys, and sports equipment, which have considerable negative environmental impacts throughout their life cycle.
